Franz Ferdinand – Can’t Stop Feeling (Domino)

2/5

By: Izzy James

Oh dear. They’ve done it again. Franz Ferdinand have put out a single which sounds just like every other song by Franz Ferdinand ever. Okay, so maybe that’s a little harsh, this one does have an added bit of synth that will surely will go down well in many a banal ‘indie disco’ night, but the same could be said of many other of their releases.

Although they aren’t as offensive as many of the commercially successful ‘indie’ bands out there, unfortunately Alex and Co don’t seem to have progressed very much since they hit the scene with such vigour and might back in 2003. In fact, ‘Can’t Stop Feeling’ was very nearly included in the track listing for their debut album, but was later swapped for the homoerotic anthem which is ‘Michael’ - and it doesn’t come as a great surprise as to why.

Whilst many of their other singles have been infectiously catchy, ‘Can’t Stop Feelingfalls just short of this accolade, and instead lands somewhere between annoying and boring. The added instrumentation does come as a welcome addition to their foot-stomping approach of yore, and although repetitive lyrics may have worked in the past, it is time the boys wriggled free of their comfort zone and tried something a bit different.
