Wave Machines – I Go I Go I Go (Neapolitan)

3/5

By: Alex Hibbert

If Wave Machines seem broken at the start of ‘I Go I Go I Go’, "Co-codamol kick to start my faltering heart/tape up my soul before it falls apart", then by the end of this single they’re firmly bandaged and kicking it wildly. The beat skips and the bass lurches, whilst a smorgasbord of bleeps and bloops spells out P-A-R-T-Y in neon above the brightly lit dance floor.

But though Wave Machines can summon the dizzying highs of a dusky sugar rush – coke cans littered on the pavement as legs swing from concrete edges - a reliance on the couplet “you stay so/ I go I go I go” for chorus dismisses the hyperactivity as something churlish. Fun, but lacking in substance.
