The Vivians Just Two Girls / Glass Houses (Too Pure)
5/5
By: Stephen Maughan
Seemingly out of nowhere, acclaimed underground Scottish band The Vivians have released an electrifying burst of energy onto the popular Too Pure Singles club. Not only that, it's a contender for single of the year.
Without trying to sound like your uncool uncle who has just figured out his Walkman can be replaced with an mp3 player – or even sounding like Gordon Brown (same thing, really) – this will certainly wake you up in the morning. Not only will you jump out of bed, magnified and bursting with energy, better still you will be happy. Happy because this is a brilliant single. Try playing it at full volume, and everything will make sense. The world will be in order if only for a few minutes.
Phew – is it really that good? Yes. Believe me, there's been an awful lot of rubbish recently from the British music scene, a lot of disappointment in over hyped bands, and cash struck record companies pretending a mediocre band will solve all their financial woes (I'll resist the temptation to name them.) “You try to rule me like a nuclear war” accuses DeVille in ‘Just Two Girls’, yet the freedom and hope these two simple songs inspire is a reminder that it's a lie when they tell you all the good tunes have come and gone.
