Left With Pictures release ‘1,2,3 Go!’ in the run up to their debut album Beyond Our Means, out in September. It’s an infectious, catchy and toe-tapping anthem filled with sunny and lavender-like hints that could feel as sickly sweet as an overdose of your favourite strawberry beer. But no, the final change in rhythmic patterns and the crescendo of harmonies in Love-like melodies give this song the perfect twist, and places this modest track within the classic folk-pop songs of the likes of Belle and Sebastian.
This song, however, probably isn’t the most capturing track of 2009 nor a composition of genius with a timeless character, as some press quotes may say, but it’s a good enough effort to make one want to have a second listen and to try to investigate where this four piece ensemble from London are heading next. Since they’re embarking on a busy tour this summer, you may want to keep your ears and eyes peeled for Left With Pictures. A few more of those twists, things could get really interesting.
