Jokers Daughter Lucid (Domino)

Joker’s Daughter is a collaboration between Helena Costas, a vocalist, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, and producer Danger Mouse. ‘Lucid’ is the second single from their debut album The Last Laugh.
The thing about this track that really stands out is the mix of traditional folk singing and almost childlike melodies of Helena’s ethereal vocals with the modern orchestration and electronica attempts. Yet I don’t think it works in this case.
The modern arrangements are deafened by a rather dull bouzouki on constant loop and an angelical voice that lacks of any type of believable emotion whatsoever. It makes it haunting and slightly scary in the literal meaning of things. But I’m choosing to laugh at the joke instead.
