Boys Noize – Power (Boys Noize Records)

4/5

By: Bronya Francis

Boys Noize - Power“Hello, this is the promotional copy of the new Boys Noize album, Power, brought to you by Boys Noize Records. Good Stuff.” Excellent stuff indeed; it is not often that you will be greeted by a robotic woman voice when reviewing a record. But this boy, he’s a rare sort.

Let us introduce you to the new addition to our generation of very cool, very noisy synth music. Justice do still lead the way, but Alex Ridha of Boys Noize follows closely as their junior, creating a ruckus that Crystal Castles would be jealous of. The album consists of synthesized instrumental epic tracks lasting an average of five minutes; these musical marathons, however, are so kick-ass they seem like a collection of intense sprints- hopping, skipping, and pole-vaulting through your eardrums.

The unavoidable fact that riotous synthesized records are impossible to listen to for more than an hour is Power’s only downfall; you can’t listen to it over and over because, let’s face it, the result would probably be a few damaged brain cells and a little headache.  But for the most part, it combines all the best elements of the finest synth music around at the moment and is a frankly awesome piece of work - Power definitely deserves a place in your music collection.
