Kings of Convenience Boat Behind (EMI)
4/5
By: Stephen Maughan
A lot can happen in five years, which is the amount of time Norwegian duo Erlend Øye and Eirik Glambek Bøe, otherwise known as Kings of Convenience last released an album. ‘Boat Behind’ address this straight on, as within seconds of the opening of this rather sweet single they proclaim “so we meet again after several years of separation”.
It reminds you why you fell in love with their music in the first place, somewhere between your first kiss and the first time you took your parents’ car for a joyride with Quiet is the New Loud in the tape deck. ‘Boat Behind’ is s a short tune which carries you along on a wave of cheerfulness and addresses nature, the passing seasons, identity, and the crossing the English Channel on a surfboard.
Yes, a lot can happen in five years, and these Norwegian kings may be dads now, but they can still write a classy folk pop tune that will have you humming along all day long.
