Hurts Wonderful Life (Vier Music)
5/5
By: Tom Hocknell
Contemporary songs seldom match their influences, but this elegiac electro-pop song does exactly that. If the girls owned last year, then 2010 is for the boys, with both Delphic and these fellow Mancs, Hurts taking an early lead.
Legendary New York producer Arthur Baker (Planet Rock, New Order, etc) takes the reigns and we taken on a graceful journey. With lines like ‘She throws him at the wall/ and kisses burn like fire/ and suddenly he starts to believe’, strung across immaculate beats, romance has seldom felt so abandoned. With beats as perfect as this, and the great payoff from the defiant chorus, this sets the bar high; even for themselves to beat.
If this isn’t single of the year then we are in for a classic.
