Wild Beasts We Still Got The Taste Dancin On Our Tongues (Domino)

You think that's a long title for a single? It may take you a while to read it on your iPod/Player/Pad, and you might need tiny writing if making a CD for someone, but we are quite a way off from Hoagy Carmichael, who holds the record for longest single title with “I'm A Cranky Old Yank In A Clanky Old Tank On The Streets Of Yokohama With My Honolulu Mama Doin' Those Beat-O, Beat-O, Flat-On-My-Seat-O, Hirohito Blues". Hope the 7 inch fitted all that in.
Wild Beasts, on the other hand, are not quite as far as you would expect from the crooning and swooning Hoagy Carmichael (who also features as the piano player in the film version of the Hemingway classic To Have And Have Not, just so you know), for both have a certain style, individuality, and old fashioned sweeping coolness that music lovers of all genres can appreciate.
‘We Still Got The Taste...’ is a confident and catchy little number, one of the highlights from their highly praised Two Dancers album, and sums up in a strange kind of way the celebration of past glories, and the contagious optimism of the present - “Why should we feel bad for what we’ve done? / Love the smash and grab of our goings on.”. It's really quite beautiful, and succeeds in capturing a feeling that many an emo band can only dream of.
