Four Tet Sing (Domino)

Kieran Hebden has been in the scene for well over a decade, first as Fridge, then recording his own material as Four Tet and providing numerous remixes for a number of artists such as Explosions in the Sky, Super Furry Animals, Radiohead, Bloc Party and Kings of Convenience. His mesmerising potpourri of electronica, folk, jazz and modern classical music forms a dancing groove based on looping rhythm and psychedelic climaxes. ‘Sing’s a pretty perfect example of it, and whilst it won’t make you literally break in to song, it will help in connecting you to some of humanity’s more primitive motor reflexes.
Four Tet’s linear depths of layered structures within cyclical motions are broken by twinkling bells, jazz allusions and textural ambience. With spiritual chants also intertwined, ‘Sing’ is about pulses of wonder and emotion; a track that touches the core of human appreciation and response to motion, rhythm and ultimately, time.
Kieran’s vision is aural and kaleidoscopic, refined yet not too dense or heavy. The absence of much in the way of bass and the introduction of percussion bring clarity and brightness to the mix –you begin to realise this is all about warm vibrations and heartbeats, about coming to understand our innate capacity for rhythm.
