Yacht – The Afterlife (DFA)

3/5

By: Liane Escorza

YACHT have been a pretty avant-garde influence over the last few years, providing happy-quirky dance pop.  In ‘The Afterlife’, they allow themselves to both experiment and have fun musically; lots of it.

With a shiny new backing band, YACHT’s optimism and buoyancy is not only transparent through their tunes but their lyrics too. Similar to George Pringle without the wittiness and sarcasm, Claire L. Evans chants and chats, spinning summery words. Now a full member and partner of Jona Bechtolt’s vision, she completes YACHT’s delivery of a bubbly 80s retro cowbell/handclap/light-hearted piece.

‘The Afterlife’ is a sassy item in an ice lolly package.  Considering the sugary tendencies of the band, I’m left wondering what other flavours could be inside. We may have to tear it open soon, or wait until their tour starts at the end of April, supporting no other than LCD Soundsystem.  Sweet.
