Caribou – Odessa (City Slang)

4/5

By: Liane Escorza

Considering Dan Snaith is a successful, talented and admired multi-instrumentalist, producer, songwriter, arranger and composer, it is obvious to say that this writer has a pre-conceived idea of what this track will be like: breathtakingly blissful, one suspects.

Yet, again, through Caribou’s skilful mastery of the dance floor formulas, expertise in tools and technology and clear knowledge of what folk are dying to hear, he’s able to provide a tune that will make you leap, bounce, tap and jump like a fiery animal.

There is aggression with elegance, nostalgic vocals a la Arthur Russell, chords on synths with the shrieking of glass, caramel bass, and most prominent of all, supreme organic beats that will connect both with the tribal instinct in you and the sophisticated side of our species.

Grand applause for Caribou, please.  Perhaps a standing ovation.  Even better, a grand stomp and spin around a dance floor.
