Michael Mayer – Immer 3 (Kompakt)

3/5

By: Liane Escorza

Those familiar with Mayer’s earlier mixes (Immer and Immer 2) will know what to expect here - Immer 3 is, thankfully, no different in style to his previous work. For those not so in tune with his artistry, it may suffice to say that Mr Mayer has a particular fondness for melody, mood, texture and above all, pace. He’s a pop-lover tangled in chilled environs and slow-motion curves of light.

If there has been a change, it’s been to make Immer 3 less dramatic than Immer 2 and moreover, even less dramatic than the first Immer. The opening track in this DJ mix compilation, ‘Don’t Let The Stars Keep Us Tangled Up’ is a powerful opener that sets the mood for a soulful and visceral rendez-vous avec Courtney Tidwell. ‘  Michael Mayer is definitely an expert in making one sway and doze off gently before being woken up again by jazzy bass lines such as those present in ‘Edges of Corrosion’ and ‘Slave’.

With a Gui Boratto Remix of Massive Attack’s ‘Paradise Circus’ also amongst Immer 3’smany joys, Mayer hints that a personal favourite pastime is sampling popular music into work-out jogging anthems and spacious dance-disco boogie.
