Deerhunter – Revival (4AD)

4/5

By: Samuel Smith

The case for labeling someone 'brilliant' should be judged against how similar to Deerhunter's Bradford Cox they are.

A few weeks back the lovely fellow and his band asked their fans to help promote the forthcoming new album by street-teaming the living heck out of everywhere with this new-wave inspired poster he had designed. In return, the band offered a free download off of the forthcoming long layer Halycon Digest.

Though it still harks back to the loose songwriting of the 60's, ‘Revival’ features some of the clearest production values to have come from this band. Though a warm fuzz still hangs over the track, you can easily pick out each instrument and each tone - from reverbed scrapes of rhythm to the treble of a mandolin.

The only drawback is the tracks diminutive length - at only 2 mins 13 seconds it is gone before it really feels like it has got going.
