The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart Heaven, London 29/7/10
4/5
By: Matt Tomiak

Almost exactly a year down the line since The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart were charming the denizens of N5 with their vaporous, contagious nu-gaze, Rockfeedback is once again present in a dinky London venue on a balmy summer evening, chock-full of rabid TPOBPAH admirers.
The New Yorker foursome have never been abashed about wearing their influences on their sleeves - 'Higher Than The Stars', the title track from their 2009 EP borrows liberally from The Cure's 'Just Like Heaven' - but with his floppy fringe and ludicrously oversized stripy sweater, singer Kip even looks like his heroes these days - tonight, a dead spit of Ride's Mark Gardener in the Oxfordian legends' early nineties pomp.
The band still toss all their best material away early, opening with ‘This Love Is F***ing Right!’, and dispensing with ‘Young Adult Friction’ shortly thereafter, but new tracks like ‘Heaven’s Gonna Happen Now’ augur well for a second album.
