Ólöf Arnalds – Innundir Skinni (One Little Indian)
4/5

Following in the footsteps of an increasingly long line of beguiling Icelandic artists comes Ólöf Arnalds , part-time travelling member of the ever so dreamy múm and oh so surprisingly friends with Sigur Rós, Amiina et al.
Her press release breathily describes a ‘good omen’ in how she bought more than she intended on a recent trip to England with the Icelandic smoke cloud trailing behind her, leaving her trapped in London to enjoy the sights. Yet her music is less suffocating than this picture may imply.
This peaceful acoustic track is a careful, lush call to arms for unattached daydreamers, or else a siren song of warmth for those already embraced. Apparently about “...expecting a child, about something being created inside you”, this maternal notion gives the song’s ultimate simplicity a homely feel.
A sun rising over a barren landscape appears as one beautiful voice, a mere hint of harmonies (in that good Peter Broderick style) and a beautiful, childlike voice that I for one would love to hear live combine seamlessly with the gentle guitar to enchant with inimitable Icelandic aplomb. Let’s hope her next London trip (in September) won’t be sold out – perhaps the volcano can erupt again, if we will it, and she’ll stay even longer this time.
