The Count & Sinden feat. Mystery Jets After Dark (Domino)
4/5

I may be biased towards ‘After Dark’, as despite its newness it’s already heavily nostalgic for me. Whilst bathing off’a the coast of Spain for a week, this song regularly bellowed from our balcony at 3 in the morning after an abundance of San Miguels and cheap Sangria, filling the silence of the beach after our skinny dipping had given the locals an unexpected ‘treat’ during their evening strolls.
But now, it’s on repeat through my headphones on the plane home whilst the 6 year old boy sat behind me with blonde hair and buck teeth feels the need to kick the back of my chair every four minutes (about the length of the song). Slightly different feeling, but still...
For me, ‘After Dark’ is a modern day ‘Club Tropicana’, with lyrics that cheekily explore the inherent lustfulness to the young and beautiful; sketchy guitar riffs and bouncing synths adding enough to tantalize anyone who’s ever been sat next to a person and wondered what the two of you would look like dancing together.
