O Children – Ruin (Deadly People)

4/5

By: Samuel Smith

O Children's 'Ruin' mines all the best noisiness of the 80's - the synthy screech bit of Cabaret Voltaire, the pop nous (is this another contradiction?) of early Depeche Mode, all held shakingly together but fronted by the bone-rattling baritone of frontman Tobias, who just happens to be the most goddamn alluring giant of a man you may ever have the misfortune of meeting.

Though this might seem a strange thing to say, the band just emanate sex. Not in the straight-up (oohp) way like, err, Cat Deeley, but in the peeled wallpaper and rope-burn way of a dirty hotel. It doesn't have to make sense.
