El Guincho – Bombay (Young Turks)

4/5

By: Tim Robins

With the hazy summer days of barbecues and afternoon gin and tonics already rapidly dwindling as we revert to the traditional driving rain and gale force winds of British weather, the majority are riddled with sunshine nostalgia. El Guincho's 'Bombay' acts as victory lap for those care free days when the sun still had his hat on.

Although comparisons to Animal Collective are rife, 'Bombay' does indeed call to mind a slightly more high octane, dance-floor ready backing track from Merriweather Post Pavillion, with cracking snare-laden drum machine beats laying a solid foundation for a multitude of castanets, hand claps and syncopated, twinkling steel drums.

Couple this with Pablo Díaz-Reixa's quasi-rapped Catalan and you may as well have replaced that depression inducing gin for a mojito, and be reclining on the beach somewhere outside Barcelona.
