Glasser – Home (True Panther)
4/5
By: Samuel Smith
Starting out with a chiming reverb splash of handclaps and the simplistic arpeggio of marimba, Glasser's ‘Home’ seems less about the usual semiotic resonances the word "Home" suggests. Rather than being a warm comfort blanket of intimacy, the song seems to twist the concepts of homecoming, depicting a scene of chaos and dissonance where familiarity should be.
This feeling of dissonance is both reflected in Glasser/Cameron Mesirow's intimate but cold, refracted swells of synths, and the songs central conceit that "the clouds were dust raining on us...there was a phantom...naturally collapsing...our homes in bits and wedding rings". It is a relatively simple song, built around a repetitive verse-chorus-versewithsynth-choruswithmoresynth kind of structure, but it’ s Mesirow's beguilingly inviting voice, as cold and reflective as polished steel, that really pulls you in to this beautiful track.
