Envy - 'All The Footprints You've Ever Left And Fear Expecting Ahead' (Rock Action)

1/5

By: Clara Burtenshaw

Envy - 'All The Footprints...'Japan: a country caught in a changing social climate, where West clashingly updates East and the desire to break away from former values leaves tradition, delicacy and politeness quaking in a queue for the Asian leg of the Blue tour.

Listening to Envy, however, makes one wonder whether Japan is not so much a land of extremes, as a country of extremos. Words, sadly, cannot render justice to this emo piece, so here's a little imagery: Envy, deceptively, are rather like Mount Fuji, harmless and serene one moment, temperamental and explosive the next. The sun may be shining and birds may be encircling it in a topaz sky, but when the f**ker erupts... roast pigeon, anyone?

No particular song is distinguishable within the cathartic, but the prominent Smashing Pumpkins-style chords and riffs could be really something if it weren't for the brutalising roars. At the end of the day, they could be singing about bonsais, geishas, and the innocence of woodland nymphs, but - essentially - it still sounds like your Nan being horrifically murdered.
