Baths – Hall (The One AM radio remix ft the los Feliz Ladies Choir) (Anticon)
5/5

In lieu of this talented Californian’s forthcoming Rockfeedback gig we thought we should give you a taste of what to expect.
Whilst folks like the Glaswegian, Warp-signed Hudson Mohawke have been waving the flag for un-syncopated, heavily compressed beats and distorted bass-synths, it’s only since LA’s own Flying Lotus released the brilliant Cosmogramma that people have started paying real attention to the movement. However, what really marks Baths apart from the rest is the sheer youthful freshness of his songs.
The woozy Dilla-like beats and gauzy samples are all background to the emotive youthful hopelessness that drives what is essentially a tender teenage love song. This remix in particular beckons up the seeming hopelessness of youthful longing especially well as it has beefed up the lonely chaps own vocals with the full weight of a ladies choir. It takes Baths' blunted beats meets sun-kissed pop aesthetic one step further.
Welcome back summer.
