Egyptian Hip Hop – Rad Pitt (Moshi Moshi)

4/5

By: Charlie Hearn

Boasting a sound that bears a vague resemblance to this year’s Mercury Music Prize winners The xx (if they were younger, and happier about everything), Egyptian Hip Hop’s stripped back production style and MGMT-esque vocals prove a winning combination.

‘Rad Pitt’ drifts along at a gentle, bass heavy rate, occasionally punctuated by interjections of uncompromising spoken word.  It’s a track with a split personality, leading you down comfortable, well arranged avenues one minute only to spit you out at awkward and chaotic intersections the next.

However, these contrasts work wonders, and make for an interesting and unpredictable journey, the song ultimately concludeding with a slow, fading keyboard line suggesting that order is once again restored.  ‘Rad Pitt’ is taken from Egyptian Hip Hop’s recently released EP Some Reptiles Have Wings, out now on Moshi Moshi Records.
