Dry The River No Rest (Self Released)
4/5
By: Charlie Hearn
Dry The River only officially formed in August of this year, but the quintet from London are rightly causing a stir even at this early stage, already being awarded the stamp of approval of the BBC’s new music guru Huw Stephens, as well as a support slot for Paul O’Brian at London’s big ‘ol Scala last month.
‘No Rest’ is one in a series of recordings doing the rounds at the moment, an infectious modern ballad that creeps up on you from humble beginnings. Rooted in a soothing acoustic mood, the song soars into an unexpected climax of layered harmonies and assorted percussion to conclude a track full of intrigue and promise.
Peter Liddle’s unique broken vocals paint a sombre picture when pitched against the laid back guitar line to induce a dull state of bliss.
