Minus The Bear – My Time (Dangerbird)
3/5
By: Jamie Russell
Something about this Minus the Bear track reminded me of Hard Fi. But somehow, listening to it didn't make me want to hunt them down and hurt them badly. In fact, I think after hunting them down, I would probably just shake their hands.
This is bright, synthy fuzzamatazz with just enough character and complexity to not piss me off. Although I do wonder if there's a closeted funk band creaking behind the indietronic entourage that is Minus the Bear? In fact, I think there may be a whole leg poking out. It's probably the bass player. Even R Kelly is better at hiding.
Typically, the album version has more grasp to it, including an interlude featuring what I suspect is a psyched out Moog that would probably make your average Radio 1 listener crap their pants or speed dial Points of View. But for me, this is a worthwhile bonus that’s testament to a band capable of displaying a lot more bite than the single version might have you think.
