Timber Timbre – Until The Night Is Over (Full Time Hobby)

3/5

By: Stephen Maughan

This fine Canadian trio continue their broody, American Southern route with this sweet little tune bringing to mind the eccentricity of 1950's figures like Buddy Holly or even Johnny Lee Lewis as vocalist Taylor Kirk squeaks “it's like a night crawler crawling out in the yard” to a dusty sound that wouldn't be out of place on a Calexico album.

‘Until The Night Is Over’ is a quirky pop song about the mortality of life, with a sneaky reference to 'House of the Rising Sun', enough eccentricity to make you want to set fire to your piano in sympathy, yet the refinement of a particularly fine 1987 Bordeaux. Few bands can achieve that feat.
