Dirty Projectors As I Went Out One Morning (Domino)
3/5

Bob Dylan covers can often be risky business. The good ones can be very good (hello Hendrix), but the bad ones, and there are a lot of them, can make you feel like a family pet has died (thank you, Axl Rose).
Luckily Dirty Projectors manage to avoid getting it wrong precisely because they’ve decided not to do anything too spectacular to the original. Dylan’s original signature harmonica line is here replaced by Dave Longstreth’s trademark jangling guitar breaks, and the bursts of female vocals are a nice addition of beauty at a level that Bob’s growl could never reach, but the end product feels slightly… incoherent.
Still, a very decent effort, and one which even the most devoted Dylan fans will struggle to be offended by.
