Fiction – Big Things (Hitclub)

4/5

By: Charlie Hearn

‘Big Things’ is the second single from London quartet Fiction, picking up right where they left off after the commendable underground success of ‘Curiosity’. Boasting a bassline that you can’t help but bob along to and synths that’ll prompt a cheerful smile from even the most hard nosed critic, at this early stage you couldn’t really ask for a much stronger follow up.

With confirmed support slots on the Klaxons and Warpaint national tours this winter, everything seems to be heading in the right direction for the buzzband from the big smoke, so much so that you can’t help but think that the song title ‘Big Things’ might be a suitable precursor of what’s to come.

Produced to perfection by Anthony Rossomando, ‘Big Things’ is a cheerful and comfortable listen that warms the heart in a David Byrne-like manner. Despite taking on a radio friendly appeal that has the tendency to leave a slightly sickening, maybe too poptastic an after taste in your mouth when pitched against the considerably darker b side ‘Mars 500’, ‘Big Things’ does nothing to hinder the bands convincing campaign for wider success.
