‘Jamie, My Intention Are Bass’ headlines !!!’s new six track remix EP, a record that grabs hold of various malleable tracks from fourth Album Strange Weather Isn’t It? using the differing techniques of the likes of Bibio, Canyons and Liv Spencer.
The lead single itself is !!! all over, taking the principles of funk laid down by the likes of James Brown’s band, Ohio players Kool and the Gang, and coating those pulsing bass lines with cycling bouncing guitars and CSS-like bleeps. The chorus is joined commandingly deep piano chords, synths and all the hallmarks of a smooth disco funk tune with Nic Offer’s vocals adding that touch of Sacramento Punk.
Lyrically it’s a dream world dotted with sexual innuendo suited to the funk groove, building to an encompassing vocal crescendo before the bass and drums kick back in to take you off to the finish line. It’s a solid tune, but expect no surprises musically from !!! – they’re aware they have what it takes to make people dance, and they’re doggedly sticking to it.
