Human League Night People (Wall Of Sound)

Sorry, no it's not 1983... It's 2010 (just), and you may be forgiven for wondering what on Earth a band like the Human League are doing in this century. But have you looked at the charts recently? Electro pop is everywhere, and let's not forget that despite the naff suits, the make-up, and the hair gel, the ‘League were a truly cracking innovative band of their day. Ok, but that day was 25 years ago, so we can all give this a spin without expecting their sound to have developed too much, right?
Wrong. The surprising thing to ‘Night People’ is that unlike other 80's bands who’ve reformed of late, the Human League seem to be determined to be their own band, in their own time – today. It's a tale of rebellion, a kind of anti-conformist call to arms, and my most beloved line in it – “think like the children, not like teachers” – is also the most telling.
‘Night People’ is a progressive epic pop song, one which frantically builds up the tempo before echoes of “I wanna know, I wanna know!” threaten to drown you in waves of sonic happiness. Oh, there's a bunch of remixes too by people I've never heard of that are rather good, but they can't touch the startlingly good original.
