Arrows Of Love – Real Friends (CLUB.THE.MAMMOTH.)
4/5
You’ll agree that for all the best things in life, there are times when they can end too soon, and times when that end can be totally anticlimactic. Music is no different, a few personal favourite genres aside, it doesn’t want to outstay its welcome, becoming an unwanted guest.
Arrows of Love's 'Real Friends' clocks in with a time so short that the moments spent fumbling with your headphones take up forty percent of your listening enjoyment. Even the chorus is succinctly put; 'We are your real friends/closer than family' it says, without needing to say anything more.
Whilst far more flamboyant in many respects, the musical direction taken here has the sonic attack of At The Drive-In, with nods to Jesus Lizard and Quicksand. Granted, we very much doubt that they wanted to sound like that bunch, but seeing as how everyone sounds like everyone else nowadays can't we just bloody get along already and agree to disagree? If ever there was time for a more flamboyant Quicksand, it’s now.
In any case, there's a lot of promise contained in this here song, and with news of Bob Weston of Shellac fame mastering the new record, we await its arrival with bated breath.
