At the beginning of the year Field Music released a remarkable double album which, while not putting these Sunderland brothers any more ‘on the map’, did give them a healthy respect from everyone from The Sunday Times to trendy US music snob collective Pitchfork.
Still, so far they don't seem to have featured much on the various best of year album charts, and as if to embarrass us for forgetting them here comes a burst of chamber McCartney -style pop with an annoyingly catchy classical feel. It ain't Beethoven, and it certainly ain't the Beatles, but its inventiveness both in terms of arrangements and melodic prowess remains pretty damn good.
“That which we asked for yesterday, gives us the only measure”. Well, quite.
