Dodos - Black Night (Wichita)

5/5

By: Stan Morgan

After an underperforming second LP, the Dodos may just have saved themselves from the indie abyss. As they ready their fourth album for release it’s fair to say that the collective attentions of the music world have shifted elsewhere, but ‘Black Night’ may just bring the spotlight back over their way.

The main reason for this is that this song is actually bloody good, with a relentless rolling drum beat and frenetic guitar strumming that sounds like Grizzly Bear after a few Red Bulls. ‘Black Night’ is the sound of a band who are fighting extinction (sorry, couldn’t help myself) by giving it everything they’ve got, and this time it looks like it’s paid off.
