Nils Frahm & Anne Mόller 7 Fingers (Erased Tapes)
4/5

Nils Frahm is a pianist, composer and producer. His latest solo works The Bells and Wintermusik sparkle with collaborations with other musicians of extreme styles, and so is the case with 7 Fingers, an album through which Anne Müller and Frahm embark on a path of experimentation by using the cello as protagonist over a set of explosive layers of electronic loops.
Frahm’s modern and fresh approach does not overshadow Anne Müller’s considerable classical talents. Known for her work with the Wolf-Ferrari-Ensemble, Phillip Boa and Klez.E, her instinct for orchestration is at the forefront of each piece, meticulously thought off yet elegantly performed, strings vibrating in dense and slow upward movements like cigarette smoke on a low lit bedroom in the early mornings of summer.
The tracks where Frahm adds his electronic stings are the most powerful ones, nevertheless. ‘7Fingers’, ‘Show your Teeth’ and ‘Ducktus’ are true pieces of beauty. These are ecstatic tremors, twitches and gluey movements swirling like a curious DNA structure.
This ‘cellotronica’ is far from disengaging. Rather, it shocks, sticks and exudes a perfumed allure, almost tangible, while classical and modern pieces alternate and shift delicately and effortlessly becoming a whole – inseparable, gracious and exquisite.
