It looked pretty bad for the Beasties a couple of years ago, when Adam ‘MCA’ Yauch was diagnosed with cancer, festival headline slots had to be cancelled, and albums put back in the calendar. Rejoice, then, that both Yauch and the band are back to full strength, and are back cranking out tunes like ‘Make Some Noise’.
The irresistibly funky track takes them back to their early 90s days, with all three members sounding like they’re having the time of their lives as they rattle through verse after verse of typically innovative and tight lyrics.
A crunchy hip-hop beat underpins everything, sounding as confident and fresh as anything they’ve made in their career, despite the hurdles thrown up by advancing years and recent difficulties. The Boys are more than back.
