LCD Soundsystem - Live Alone (Franz Ferdinand Cover) (Domino)

3/5

By: Stan Morgan

Continuing LCD Soundsystem and Franz Ferdinand’s habit for covering each other, this track sits as part of a special 12” release for Record Store Day, alongside other covers by the likes of Peaches and Stephen Merritt.

The track will be one of the last recordings released by the now defunct New York collective, and unfortunately it’s not one of their strongest moments. All energy seems to have been removed from the song, having been replaced with a dark undercurrent that never succeeds in diverting your attention from what is at its core a pretty average song.

It’s still nice to hear James Murphy’s unmistakeable voice drawling its way through the track, but this is unlikely to be how the main man would have wanted his band to be remembered.
