Jessica 6 See The Light (Peacefrog)
3/5

Before you think it, the name Jessica 6 has no direct relation to the character from the dystopic ageist 1976 film, Logan’s Run - this is not a side project. Rather than concerning themselves with any kind of systemised global euthanasia, this New York based trio have been holed away writing their debut album, See The Light.
They deliver charming moments of 80’s dance pop in such an effective way that it would have made the likes of Madonna in her heyday fall from her pedestal, plummeting from her cloud made up of bad dentures and adopted children from different continents toward the cold, hard ground.
Opener ‘White Horse’, has a progressive electronic synth riff, whilst Ms. Nomi ‘I like to dance against a wall in my bra and knickers’ Ruiz’s power struck vocals are reminiscent to some of the early 90’s house music, similar to those featured in ‘Break of Dawn’ by Rhythm on the Loose.
‘Fun Girl’s layered synths conjure up a rather haunting yet sexy melody which could quite easily work as an aphrodisiac, whilst ‘Good To Go’ shows off the trio’s diversity in songwriting as an essence of Sade glimmers through; it’s a slow, wind down number, which Ruiz has no problem in delivering with that deep, sensual husk to her vocal tones.
So don’t become startled on first appearances, if you’re above the age of 30, you’ll still get to keep your life when listening to this rather innovatively seductive record, filled with synths, groans and moans straight from the Danceteria days.
