Beginning with a sprinkle of chimes, followed by the obligatory 4/4 thump, Austra's latest single is a slow burning track borne of an open-minded group willing to take their influences from dance, metal and opera.
This is the third single from album Feel It Break, described elsewhere as “...a set of pneumatic club tracks”, “self assured” and “heartfelt.” This songs typifies those particular attributes with a cocksure enthusiasm, driving rhythm section and expressive, soaring vocals.
However, as singer Katie has admitted “I never listen to lyrics.” Unfortunately it's lines like “I'm ready to waste all my limbs and my face” which let the song down slightly, leaving the pulsating backing to drag the words along for the ride, a limp passenger.
If the lofty delivery can be reconciled with some more thoughtful writing, then Austra will truly shine as a thrillingly brooding, macabre dance-act - but for now, they merely sparkle.
