Factory Floor - Two Different Ways (DFA)
5/5
By: Stan Morgan

If we’ve learnt anything from the past year or so, it’s that North London’s Factory Floor are pretty brilliant. ‘Two Different Ways’ is their third release this year, after their re-released untitled mini-album and single (REALLOVE), and believe us when we say that it’s the pick of the bunch.
The word ‘relentless’ gets used a lot around this band, and it’s easy to see why from the track. It’s based around a repetitive synth line that wouldn’t sound out of place in an Ibiza club, but with jerky, stiff percussion that both draws you in and knocks you off-kilter in equal measure. Vocalist Nik Colk’s input is emotionless and almost atonal, providing just enough organic noise to stop you going mad from all the harsh drum claps and buzzing bass.
It’s hard to fault the track in any way, and even at over eight minutes it never overstays its welcome, instead bluntly cutting itself off just before you cry out your safe word. It’s sadistic, but we like it.
