Field Music - (I Keep Thinking About) A New Thing (Memphis Industries)
4/5
By: Stan Morgan

Field Music have a reputation for being described as underrated by the press, always in the shadow of fellow North-Eastern indie bands like The Futureheads and Maximo Park. ‘(I Keep Thinking About) A New Thing’ is unlikely to change any perceptions about the band, but with its literate take on jerky indie it’s far better than the majority of stuff it’s likely to be overshadowed by.
The track goes back to the sharp, on-edge sound from the band’s first two albums, after it was polished and softened on last year’s album Field Music (Measure), and the brothers Brewis demonstrate that they’ve lost none of their knack for catchy hooks over the years.
The Television-esque guitar work sounds like it might veer off into a Television-esque ten minute solo around the two minute mark, but the boys mange to reign it back in and wrap the song up in a much more palatable three minutes; three minutes that you won’t regret spending with Field Music.
