Blondes – Wine (RVNG Intl.)

4/5

By: Stan Morgan

New York’s Blondes take an experimental approach when writing and performing their music, but you wouldn’t be able to tell from ‘Wine’. The track is a perfectly measured piece of drowsy electronica – it sounds like hours have been spent obsessively tweaking the pitch of handclaps or messing about with infinite numbers of vocal filters.

Mixing the euphoric sounds of the Balearic Isles with the darker side of New York’s nightlife, the track takes enough twists and turns to keep it interesting for its duration, even if you haven’t got anything in your system to heighten your senses. The approach of the duo’s debut album is getting more exciting with each track that emerges, with ‘Wine’ being the pick of the bunch so far.
