It’s Christmas, and Spectrals’ Louis Jones has everything he wants - a critically acclaimed debut album, beautiful flowing ginger locks, and now a very nice Christmas tune, or at least half of one. Just like its title, the track is rather lengthy, featuring four minutes of a lovely jingly-jangly tune about, believe it or not, having everything you want at Christmas, followed by another four minutes of creepy and frankly very un-Christmassy dub, without a sleigh bell in sight.
The Jekyll and Hyde personality of the track is most likely down to Jones’ dry Yorkshire sense of humour, and being a lager loving southerner makes it difficult for me to fully comprehend why it’s been done. Even if there is a coherent reason behind it it’s still a bit mad. Imagine ’Last Christmas’ with a dub outro. Crazy. But the whole concept of Christmas is crazy too, so it’s all alright in the end.
