Death Grips are planning two albums in 2012, the details of which are very thin on the ground at the moment. What we do know is that ‘Blackjack’ will be featuring on the first of those albums, due to arrive around April (ish). The progressive Sacramento rap outfit have a sound that is pushing the boundaries of a genre that has undergone a transformation over the last few years, sounding ahead of its time amongst the Odd Futures and A$AP Rockys of the world.
‘Blackjack’ is chaotic, abrasive and tough to get your head around, especially if you’re into your lyrics, but the overall effect is one that the band are in complete control of and are learning to manipulate masterfully. More of the same on their first album of the year would be welcome, but it’s probably not what we’re going to get, and we’re fine with that.
