Hatherley, the feminine glue brought into hold Ash together will be the cause of sticky fingers and salivating now that the singular light falls on the demure guitarist.
This solo showcase, however, testifies Charlotte not as a shrinking violet, but a sultry starlet in her own right. 'Grey Will Fade' is a sliver of too good to be true, summery pop that shimmers and struts with
the urgency of the Cars and the Ramones, and the amateur sound aesthetic of Ash.
These songs have clearly been burning a hole in the guitarist's songbook for some time, Ash commitments only allowing it to be recorded during the band's brief sabbatical, but the all-in-one-take sound doesn't
disappoint. Charlotte's charming, if haphazard, voice engages throughout, and current single 'Summer' and prior net-download 'Kim Wilde' are laden with killer hooks and delicious candy-pop sensibilities.
Juicy, sophisticated and utterly satisfying, like the lady herself.
