Aberfeldy - 'Young Forever' (Rough Trade)
4/5
By: Clara Burtenshaw
Despite the coital cover design featuring lion and lioness indulging in an orgy from penile perspective, albums don't come more romantic or softcore than Aberfeldy's 'Young Forever'.
Much in the vein (oi oi) of fellow Scots Belle and Sebastian's early stuff, this Edinburgh two-piece specialise in melodic singalongs to simple strings, strumming, and sunshine, with compellingly cute harmonic arrangements. The persistent positivity of the songs are kept in check with lyrics such as 'Love is a verb and a
noun as well/You'll find it in the dictionary under 'hell', but tedium strikes halfway through, the lullaby nature of songs like 'What You Do', succeeding.
However, you suspect music just won't find a happier bunch going. At last - a non-prescription alternative to Prozac.
