The Tenderfoot - 'Vale Industrial' (5:15)

3/5

By: Matt Tomiak

The Tenderfoot - 'Vale...'With the possible exception of fellow Brighton lads The Electric Soft Parade's debut album, it's hard to pinpoint a record so absolutely, unashamedly indie as 'Vale Industrial', save for Murry the Hump's last gracing of the Peel Festive 50.

Seriously, a band called The Tenderfoot - never likely to be a black metal outfit, were they? Indeed not: this six-track mini album is as comforting as all those treasured early teenage memories of long-lost 'Evening Session' showcases and favourite singles just scraping the top-40.

'Our Smoking Friends' is the soundtrack to Gorky's Zygotic Mynci and Ooberman's joint annual summer picnic; singer Darren Moon sounds uncannily like Gruff Rhys' doppelganger on 'Things Will Get Better'; and there's a grand finale by the name of 'If You've Nothing Nice To Say Don't Say Anything At All.'. Aaah. Some would turn the air blue at such a request, but perhaps it's just the old nostalgic fool in us which detects something special brewing on the south coast.
