Turn - 'Turn' ()

3/5

By: Matt Tomiak

Turn - 'Turn'What's that old saying about the luck of the Irish...? Eire trio Turn's

songwriter-in-chief Ollie Cole is a man in possession of the elusive musical Midas Touch - this, the band's third LP (after aeons away), is one of those rare indulgences of an album where every single track would potentially make a decent single.

Gushingly, it's Power Pop with unabashedly capital 'P's in either case, located mainly at the more palatable end of the mature emo spectrum, occupying an instant, melody-drenched placed somewhere between Weezer, Jimmy Eat World and Death Cab For Cutie. That they also bear the same name as Travis track may be coincidental, but the likes of 'Close Your Eyes' also succeeds in creating sweeping, inclusive balladry via wounded introspection a la 'The Man Who'.

'Stop', 'Sorry's Just A Word' and (the best of the lot), the anthemic

avowal of 'No One's Gonna Change Your Life But You' is the kid cousin of the Lemonheads college rock classic 'Confetti', tinged with the summertime hue of the Boo Radleys. 'Turn' is an album full of songs to raise a smile and warm the heart. Even this far down the line.
