The Divine Brown - 'How The Divine Brown Saved Rock 'N' Roll' (Artrocker)

3/5

By: Matt Tomiak

The Divine Brown - 'How The Divine Brown...'

Their name alone suggests that The Divine Brown are hardly the sort of shy, retiring chaps you could take home and introduce to your mother.

And so the sleazy, self-assured stylings of London's latest garage-rock participants prove, with titles such as 'Kranked Up Really High' and 'Get Some Action' saying much about The DB's band ethos. As fond of shouting 'f***!' as they are of creating a Rocket From The Crypt-themed racket (indeed, 'Divine Detonation' bears a close resemblance to RFTC's sole hit 'On A Rope'), these six tracks are imbued with a real, raving rock n' roll spirit.

And, thus, to their credit, The Divine Brown are sneeringly assertive - and obnoxious - enough to set themselves apart from an increasingly predictable scene.
