Airport Girl - Slow Light (Fortuna Pop)

2/5

By: Gareth Roberts

Airport Girl - Slow LightAirport Girl are another one of those bands that you can't really pin down. Their blurb suggests that they're current guise as alt.country types is a departure from their previous work, and this explains the slightly disjointed feel of 'Slow Light'.

It's been five years since their last release, 'Honey, I'm an Artist', and since then it seems they've been listening to a lot of Go-Betweens and Belle & Sebastian records, and have probably been involved with a few relationship problems as well, judging by the theme of regret that runs through 'Slow Light' from start to end.

Each song is rich in texture, the sound of musicians reaching an age of maturity, both musically and literally. 'There's a Crisis in Your Past' and 'Don't Let Me Down again' give a clear indication of the turmoil that must have accompanied these guys over the years which has clearly manifested itself in the form of this record.

But other than that, it's difficult to comment further. If you're into relatively generic music, the kind of thing you might find your dad listening to, then this will be up your street. And you're weird for liking your Dad's music. However, for those wanting something a bit more edgy, most likely you if you're trawling sites like this one for your music, then you're not going to miss out on much by avoiding 'Slow Light'.
