The Hedrons – One More Won’t Kill Us (Measured Records)

3/5

By: Yousif Nur

The Hedrons - One More Won't Kill UsNot to sound pedantic or anything, or even presumptuous, but there was slight worry over what to expect from 'One More Won't Kill Us' upon doing a bit of preliminary research in to The Hedrons. The words 'girl', 'rock' and 'group' evoke 'three', 'power', 'chords' and 'attitude', don't they?

And granted, there is all of that. But crucially, it's there with integrity, and taken not as the most pedestrian of routes down the most predictable of roads. Hailing from Scotland, The Hedrons provide an energetic forty minutes or so of the words aforementioned, and they're really rather listenable.

Let's face it, we don't like people who outstay their welcome, and the great thing about this is that the songs last only as long as they need to. 'Couldn't Leave Her Alone' is a fast-paced riot romp, whereas 'Be My Friend' is an enjoyable plethora of great melodic guitars and lush, confident vocals, all with a sweet female attitude to match. A highlight is the almost hardcore-like 'Falling Star' where the powerful drums and simple three chords (there we have it again) are at their prominent and effective.

The Hedrons lasses may not re-invent the wheel anytime in the near future, but it'll do before a night on the town.
